CPA Accountant Karen HellmundKaren graduated from the University of Tennessee in August 1991, magna cum laude, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting. She became a Certified Public Accountant in March 1993, became a Certified Valuation Analyst in January 2002, was Accredited in Business Valuation in August 2006, and became Certified in Financial Forensics in October 2008. Karen attends a minimum of eighty (80) hours of continuing professional education every two years as required to maintain these certifications.

Karen has worked in public accounting for over 25 years. She worked in the industry for a total of 12 years as a controller. In public accounting, she works in areas of audit, tax, litigation support, and business valuations. In industry, she worked in real estate development, pre-press, and a custom thermoforming plant. Her diverse experience has given her a broad perspective on financial aid and operational manners.

Karen has testified as an expert witness in State Chancery Court. She also has assisted in several mediations in business loss and divorce cases.

Karen is a Member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants  (AICPA), the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA), and the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA). She has served on the Board of Directors for the TSCPA Knoxville Chapter for six years. She served as Assistant Treasurer in 1996, Treasurer in 1997, At Large Director in 1998, Vice-President of Education in 1999, President-Elect in 2000, and President in 2001. She was elected as the TSCPA Chapter Representative in March 2009 for a three-year term. She is active on various TSCPA committees. She received the Leadership Development Award for organizing and starting the first golf tournament for the TSCPA Knoxville Chapter in 1994, which is now held annually with proceeds used to purchase gifts for the Angel Tree. She served as Committee Chair for the golf tournament for five years. She is a Member of the Knoxville Civitan Club.
